About KPS

The Korean Physical Society was founded in Pusan[Busan] in 1952 during the Korea War.
Since then, the organization has played a role to provide the sphere for sharing the academic performances and exchanges among the domestic scholars and researchers according to establishment of department of physics in various universities in Korea, supports and subsidies from the government, establishment of laboratories and institutes subsidized by the government, and increasing population of researchers in physics. As a result, the members have been increased to around 15,000 by 2020 and there are twelve sub-fields and eight branches in Korea. The KPS is the member of international academic organizations such as IUPAP, AAPPS, and APCTP, having concluding MOU with thirteen overseas associations of physics including Japan and USA for international exchanges as well as domestic ones. Main projects by the KPS include publishing academic journals, holding academic conferences and events, and education programs for physics. For publishing academic journals, there are total three journals, a Korean journal, Saemuli (새물리), and two international journals, Journal of the Korean Physical Society(JKPS) and Current Applied Physics(CAP) and a new letter, Physics and High Technology is published ten times a year. For academic events, there are two regular domestic academic conferences in spring and autumn every year and two international conferences,‘International Conference on Advanced Materials and Devices(ICAMD)’and ‘International Symposium on the Physics of Semiconductors and Applications(ISPSA)’are held every other year, respectively. For physics education projects, there are supporting international physics Olympiad, physics certification system, Korean Middle School Student Physics Contest, Physics UCC, College Student Exhibition, High School Student’s Physics Festival, Girl High School Student Camp, etc. The KPS has installed four committees for editing and 10 regular committees, and some special committees to conduct these main projects with the executive board of directors and secretariat for the actual works. The entire main projects and agendas are reported and resolved in the board of directors or general meetings.
