  • Postdoctoral Associate position in Experimental High Energy Physics, Kyungpook National University, Republic of Korea

The CMS group at Kyungpook National University (KNU) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate position to work on the CMS experiment at the LHC. The KNU CMS group has involvement in several detector R&D projects including the development of AI-based Level-1 trigger algorithms and the Endcap Timing Layer of CMS MIP Timing Detector (MTD) upgrade for HL-LHC as well as silicon sensor R&D for future HEP experiment and industry applications. The physics program in the KNU group focuses on searches for new physics including Dark Matter, Long-lived particles, and Z' bosons as well as the measurement of Bose-Einstein Correlations in the heavy-ion collision. In addition, the group plays a leading role in benchmark studies on the Deep Learning approach for new physics search using GPUs and HPC based on multi-node CPU architectures (Xeon Phi nodes) on the Cori supercomputer at Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI).

The successful candidate is expected to play a major role in physics data analysis and particularly interested in strengthening the group working on the CMS MTD project for the CMS Phase-2 Upgrade. This position will be based at KNU for at least 1 year, with periodic visits (subject to ease of travel restrictions due to Covid-19) to FNAL and CERN are required to fulfill detector development responsibilities.

The group is looking for an outstanding applicant who has obtained a Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics for a Postdoctoral Associate. The candidate should have strong data analysis skills and have experience in hardware R&D. Appointment is for one year with a possibility of extension subject to mutual satisfaction and the availability of National Research Foundation (NRF) funding.

The review of applications will begin immediately and for full consideration, applications should be received by July 31st, 2021. Applicants should submit a CV, a list of publications to which they have made significant contributions, a description of research history and research interests, and arrange three letters of recommendation. Application material should be sent to Prof. Chang-Seong Moon (csmoon@knu.ac.kr).

Kyungpook National University is an Equal Opportunity Employer of individuals with disabilities and protected veterans and actively seeks diversity among its employees. Background checks might be required.
