VISA/K-ETA/PANDEMIC Information

2024 KPS Spring Meeting   April 23-26, 2024   Daejeon Convention Center

Important VISA/K-ETA/PANDEMIC Information on Entry to Korea, as of Oct. 2022

1. For citizens of many nations, more than 100, short visits to Korea for non-commercial purpose are possible without obtaining VISA. Due to the reciprocity, there are some notable exceptions, we believe, such as China and India. It would be best to inquire your regional Korean consular office. However, AS OF YEAR 2022, even visa-free entries require ADDITIONAL STEPS before and after. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ITEMS 4. and 5. BELOW.

2. For some nations, this visa-free entry has been suspended during the Pandemic. We believe, however, that for Japan, Taiwan, Macao, this suspension is temporarily lifted so that via-free entry via K-ETA below is possible till Oct 31st. Please double-check this yourself well ahead of your trip.

3. If you need a visa, please alert your contact person, typically an organizer of the session or the host institute if there is one, immediately. KPS is accepting the request through your contact person, till Sept. the 15th.

4. AS OF 2022, all VISA-FREE entries by foreign personnel REQUIRE PRIOR on-line applications and APPROVALS by Korean government. This NEW VISA-FREE ENTRY PROCEDURE is called K-ETA. We strongly caution THOSE WHO HAVE ENTERED KOREA IN THE PAST PRIOR TO THIS NEW PRACTICE.

The application should be made at least 48 hours prior to the boarding and preferably 72 hours prior to the advent of the boarding day in your time zone, at https://www.k-eta.go.kr/.

There is a fee of about 10 US$. You will be asked to fill in various information, and also to attach a portrait file of yourself. For further detail, please consult the video instruction: "How to apply for K-ETA Full information"

If you register with your mobile, you can save the QR code and show it to quarantine officers. If not, a printed QR code will do. For the registration, you will be asked to enter the passport number, flight details, address & contact phone numbers in Korea, etc. Please consult the above URL for further detail.
